Can I Recycle Sites on a Limited WP Ghost Plan?

Yes. WP Ghost plans with limited sites count active installs, not total installs. If you remove a site from your account, the slot opens up for a new one. You can cycle through as many sites as you need over the lifetime of your subscription, as long as you stay within the simultaneous site limit.

How Does the Site Limit Work on WP Ghost Plans?

The number of websites on your plan refers to active installs, meaning the maximum number of sites where the plugin can be active at the same time. For example, if you have a Ghost 5 plan (5 websites), you can have WP Ghost installed and activated on up to 5 sites simultaneously.

This is not a total lifetime cap. You’re not locked into the first 5 sites forever. If you stop using the plugin on one site, you remove it from your account and that slot becomes available for a different site.

How Do I Remove a Site to Free Up a Slot?

Log in to your WP Ghost Dashboard at account.hidemywpghost.com and go to the Connected Websites section. Find the site you want to remove and click delete. The license for that site is released immediately, and you can connect a new site using the standard activation steps.

When you remove a site from your account, the custom paths on that site revert to the default WordPress paths. The plugin will still be installed on that site, but it will prompt for re-activation. The site’s settings and content are not affected, only the WP Ghost path changes are reversed.

For the full walkthrough on removing and adding sites, see the activate on a new website guide.

What If I Need Unlimited Sites?

If you manage a large number of sites and don’t want to deal with removing and adding slots, the Ghost ALL plan covers unlimited websites. You can install WP Ghost on as many sites as you want with no limit. Check the WP Ghost pricing page for details on all available plans.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a limit on how many times I can swap sites?

No. You can remove and add sites as often as you need. The only limit is the number of simultaneously active sites on your plan. There’s no lifetime cap or “recycling” restriction.

What happens to a site’s settings when I remove it from my account?

The custom paths revert to default WordPress paths on the removed site. The site’s content, pages, posts, and WordPress settings are not affected. WP Ghost’s settings remain in the database but are inactive. If you reconnect the site later, you’ll need to reactivate and reconfigure WP Ghost.

Can I remove a site remotely without logging into that site’s WordPress?

Yes. You can remove any connected site directly from the WP Ghost Dashboard at account.hidemywpghost.com. You don’t need admin access to the site itself. This is useful if a client relationship has ended or you’ve lost access to the site’s WordPress admin.

Does the free version have a site limit?

WP Ghost Free can be installed on unlimited sites. The site limits only apply to Premium plans, where the limit determines how many sites can use Premium features simultaneously. Each Premium plan tier (Ghost 1, Ghost 5, Ghost ALL) has a different site allowance.

Does WP Ghost modify WordPress core files?

No. WP Ghost uses server rewrite rules and WordPress filters to change paths at runtime. No core files, theme files, or plugin files are modified. Deactivating or removing WP Ghost restores all default WordPress paths instantly.
