WP Ghost does not have a formal license transfer system. However, if you are selling a website and want to pass along your WP Ghost Premium license, you can change the email address associated with your account to the new owner’s email. This effectively gives the new owner full control of the account, license, and connected websites.

How to Hand Off a License When Selling a Site

If you are selling a single website and want the new owner to keep using WP Ghost Premium on it, you have two practical options.

Option 1: Change your account email. If the website being sold is the only site on your WP Ghost account, you can change the account email to the new owner’s email address. The new owner then has full access to the account, the license, and all connected features including the WP Ghost Dashboard, cloud monitoring, and priority support. This is the simplest approach when you no longer need the license yourself.

Option 2: Remove the site and let the new owner purchase their own license. If you have multiple sites on your account and want to keep your license for the remaining sites, delete the sold website from your connected sites in the WP Ghost Dashboard. The new owner can then purchase their own WP Ghost Premium license and activate it on the site. For instructions on removing and adding connected sites, see the Activate WP Ghost on a New Website tutorial.

What Happens to the Plugin When a License Is Removed

If a license is removed from a website (either by deleting it from connected sites or by the subscription expiring), the WP Ghost plugin reverts to the free version. All path changes return to WordPress defaults on the disconnected site. The plugin remains installed but Premium features like the Security Threats Log, User Events Log, country blocking, and priority support become unavailable. The new owner would need to reactivate the plugin with their own license or continue using the free version with its 115+ features.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I move my license from one site to another?

Yes. Go to your WP Ghost Dashboard, delete the connected website you want to remove, and then activate the license on the new site using your activation token. The license slot becomes available immediately after deletion. See the Activate on a New Website guide for step-by-step instructions.

Will the new owner get support?

Support is provided to the account holder with an active subscription. If you transfer your account email to the new owner, they become the account holder and receive support. If the new owner purchases their own license, they get support on their own account. WP Ghost does not provide direct support to third parties, like an agency’s clients.

Does the free version still protect the site if the license expires?

Yes. WP Ghost Free includes 115+ features: path security, 7G/8G firewall, brute force protection, 2FA with passkeys, security headers, and more. The Premium features (advanced logs, country blocking, file permissions, SALT regeneration) become unavailable, but the core hack-prevention functionality continues working. See the Free vs Premium comparison for the full breakdown.

Does WP Ghost modify WordPress core files?

No. WP Ghost uses rewrite rules and WordPress filters. No core files are modified. Removing the license or deactivating the plugin restores all default WordPress paths instantly.
